Pininfarina NamX Hydrogen SUV: The New Tesla of Hydrogen Power?

Pininfarina, in collaboration with NamX, presented the NamX HUV (Hydrogen Utility Vehicle) concept car at the renowned Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023.

German version

Electric vehicle (EV) and battery technology have yet to fully convince on the sustainability front, primarily due to challenges related to the supply and extraction of critical resources such as lithium and cobalt, which result in substantial CO2 emissions. Hydrogen, known as one of the cleanest energy sources, has the potential to redefine sustainable mobility, provided that certain design and concept challenges are addressed, along with making hydrogen accessible on a global scale. It seems that this challenge has been addressed to a surprising extent.

New removable hydrogen tank capusules

Working closely with Pininfarina, the NamX HUV boasts a modern and sleek SUV design. The vehicle features an integrated and groundbreaking removable tank system that partially fuels the vehicle with hydrogen capsules, marking a significant breakthrough in clean and sustainable transportation. The six hydrogen capsules, located at the rear of the car, provide an impressive range of 700 to 800 kilometers. These capsules can be recharged at hydrogen filling stations, they can be delivered to the user (!), or be conveniently obtained from CapXtores, ensuring widespread access to hydrogen fuel.

The NamX HUV at the Goodwood Future Lab

The NamX HUV concept was prominently showcased in the Goodwood Future Lab, a platform that focuses on “Technology for a Better World.” NamX and Pininfarina were featured in the section titled “Powering the Future,” highlighting solutions for efficient, clean, and rapid future mobility, ranging from new fuels and propulsion methods to sustainable energy sources and advanced computing.

Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of Pininfarina, enthusiastic about presenting the NamX HUV at Goodwood, stated that this project underscored their commitment to a sustainable future and their dedication to providing an exceptional driving experience.

About NamX

The NamX HUV recently received the Green Good Design Sustainability Award 2023 in the Green Transportation category from the Chicago Athenaeum. Founded by Faouzi Annajah and Thomas de Lussac, NamX is an Afro-European venture with the ambitious goal of reconciling human mobility and environmental preservation on a large scale through green hydrogen. Leveraging their patented system of removable hydrogen capsules, NamX aims to offer clean mobility that is free from traditional decarbonization constraints.

Availability from Q4 2025

The HUV will be available in two versions: an entry-level rear-wheel drive model with 300 hp and a regulated top speed of 200 km/h, and a four-wheel drive GTH version with 550 hp and a regulated top speed of 250 km/h. It is scheduled to hit the market in Q4 2025, with prices ranging from 65,000 to 95,000 euros, depending on selected options.

In summary, the NamX HUV concept represents a potentially significant leap forward in the world of hydrogen-powered mobility.
