The Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (OeVK) has been announced as the new host of the International Motorcycle Conference Milan (IMCM). With the IMCM, the OeVK is expanding its conference programme, which also includes the International Vienna Motor Symposium. One of the leading conferences for the motor industry, the International Vienna Motor Symposium, is attended each year by more than 1,000 decision-makers from the global automotive industry – OEMs, suppliers and leaders in the fields of research and development. The International Motorcycle Conference (IMCM) will take place on 2 November at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia “Leonardo da Vinci” in Milan.
Taking place one day before the start of EICMA (International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition), the world’s most important trade fair for the motor bike industry, the IMCM will bring together experts from industry and research from Europe, China, India and the USA. “The conference provides a forum for discussing current technical trends and international perspectives on the future of motorcycling,” said Professor Bernhard Geringer, President of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers, highlighting the importance of such a platform for dialogue within the global motorcycle industry. “The IMCM was launched on the initiative of Professor Helmut Eichlseder, Dr Christian Landerl and Professor Leopold Mikulic, all of whom are professionally and personally engaged with motorcycling. Following a one-year break, the IMCM builds on the legacy of the Ricardo Motorcycle Conference and its more than decade-long conference tradition. Under the motto ‘Engineering the fascination of motorcycling in a changing world’, the conference will explore which technological innovations motorcycles need to remain attractive in the face of regulation, electrification, safety requirements and new forms of mobility.”
New technologies shaping the future of motorcycling
Speakers include Thomas Uhr of BRP, Canada, who will address the future of powersports vehicles and the associated riding experience, as well as Steffen Meyer-Salfeld of BRP-Rotax, who will present an electric drive system designed for a wide range of applications. Alok Kumar of Hero MotoCorp in India will discuss the transformation of two-wheelers, while Wei Ni of the Chinese technology company Hangzhou DengTeng will present solutions for automated clutch and transmission systems.
The motorcycle as an integrated system
Beyond powertrain technology, the IMCM will consider the motorcycle as an integrated system: presentations by KTM Research & Development and Bosch will focus on chassis and vehicle dynamics, while the BMW Group will address artificial intelligence in motorcycle development. AVL List will also contribute several presentations to the programme, including a joint presentation with BMW Motorrad on the new BMW F 450 GS.
Following the conference programme, discussions will continue at an evening reception at Deus ex Machina, a meeting place for Milan’s motorcycle scene, before EICMA’s press and trade visitor days begin the following day.
