On November 30th, this year’s Global Peter Drucker Forum will kick off at the Vienna Hofburg for the 15th time. Over two days, top executives from around the world will discuss the theme “Creative Resilience: Leading in an Age of Discontinuity.” Daniel Pink will participate in a panel discussion to explore why some fail due to mistakes while others grow.
“Making the Most of Failure” is the title of the panel, moderated by the inspiring Julia Kirby (Harvard University Press). The description goes on to say, “Good judgment comes from experience,” the old quote goes, and continues “but unfortunately, experience comes from bad judgment.” Why do some people, organizations, sectors never recover from mistakes, while others learn and grow?
Completing the panel are Amy C. Edmondson (see our recent article), Julie Linn Teigland (Member of the Global Executive at EY), and Niren Chaudhary, Chairman of the Board at Panera Brands.
Julie Linn Teigland is the Area Managing Partner for EY EMEIA and leads a geographic area comprising member firms with more than 140,000 employees in 97 countries. Julie was recently named one of Fortune magazine’s Most Powerful Women International.
Niren Chaudhary is known for his success at Panera and his commitment to developing leadership talent. Those familiar with the executive scene might also know him from his time as the Global President of KFC. From his biography, we learn that he holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate and has founded his own rock band as a musician.
Here’s a management summary of Daniel Pink‘s latest book:
In “The Power of Regret“, Daniel H. Pink argues that everyone experiences feelings of regret, and that these are an integral part of our lives. By condensing research findings from various fields, Pink demonstrates how regret can be harnessed to make better and wiser decisions, improve work performance, and lead a more fulfilling life. He identifies the four primary regrets most people have and explains how they can help us understand our values and priorities better. Pink offers a simple, scientifically grounded three-step process to transform regret into a positive force for personal growth and to operationalize a culture of learning from mistakes. The book presents a mix of inspiring big ideas, practical tips, and entertaining stories.
Daniel H. Pink is the author of five New York Times bestsellers, including his latest, The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. His other books include the New York Times bestsellers When and A Whole New Mind — as well as the #1 New York Times bestsellers Drive and To Sell is Human. Dan’s deeply-researched books have won multiple awards, have been translated into 42 languages, and have sold millions of copies around the world.
